Varpaisjärvi is a beautiful village in Eastern Finland. The number of inhabitants in our village is about 2500. We have two functioning schools here. At the beginning of year 2011 Varpaisjärvi become a part of a larger community Lapinlahti. Varpaisjärvi is located in rural area about 60 kilometres from Kuopio (where the nearest airport is).
Varpaisjärvi school is a combined pre-school, primary and general secondary school which means that we teach all the grades between 0-9 according to the Finnish school system and National Curriculum for Education. We have about 190 pupils and 20 staff members. Because we are a state school, we educate all the children in our village regardless of their socio-economical background, their academic skills or special needs. The number of children of migrants is less than 10 at the moment.
