IES Albal (Valencia, Spain)

The secondary school IES Albal is located in the town of Albal, a few kilometers from Valencia. It is a center with about 1000 students and 100 teachers.

We have been participating in Erasmus projects for many years. We have contacts with many schools in Europe and have participated in a variety of Erasmus exchanges, both for teachers and students.

We are interested in continuing to do group student exchanges with students between the ages of 14 and 17.

we are working on the following Erasmus objectives:
– To defend the principle of equal opportunities as one of the hallmarks of the center.
– To achieve that all the students of the center study in a plurilingual program.
– To give international visibility to our center: We want to become an authentic international center for our educational community.
– To educate to be sustainable citizens, but educating the entire educational community.
– To digitalize the school: Improve the digital skills of the entire educational community.

At IES Albal we also carry out the following projects with the educational community:

Project 50/50:
Program to promote the three R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle), organization and participation in environmental campaigns, boost to the school garden and manage to make the school space a more pleasant place.

Pygmalion:
Project intended to help students who have difficulties adapting to the center and learning difficulties. Student volunteers (4th grade and 1st grade) help 1st and 2nd graders and some 3rd graders. Pairs are formed and each volunteer is assigned an ESO student. This pair works throughout the course together. There are two teachers who supervise the whole process and coordinate the work of the pairs.

Mediation:
School Mediation is a strategy for the prevention and peaceful resolution of conflicts that may arise in the school environment, offering students with a conflict to sit together, voluntarily, with a neutral third party, who is a member of the MEDIATOR TEAM of the institute, to talk about their problem and try to reach an agreement in a positive and collaborative way.

Shared classroom
Program designed to promote the socio-educational integration of students. Students participate in two service-learning programs throughout the course. One program is carried out in the Residencia d’ancians d’Albal (students make board games and come to the residence to spend a few hours playing and interacting with the elderly), another is carried out together with the local police and the canine residence (consists of dog training) and another with the organic agriculture association Del camp a la Taula.
