“Eudoxiu Hurmuzachi” National College

The National College “Eudoxiu Hurmuzachi” was founded 150 years ago, in 1872, in an attempt to provide solid educational opportunities for the growing number of young people in the area. Over a century later, “Eudoxiu Hurmuzachi” National College remains the first choice for the local community, being a centre of excellence where all the students gain the qualifications, skills, and experience necessary for them to maximize their potential.

At present 872 attend our classes and 45 teachers provide them with the best possible education; in order to do so all teachers regularly participate in training sessions to ensure high standards.

Our students follow a core curriculum that includes Mathematics, Foreign Languages (English, German, French, Russian and Ukrainian), Science, Computer Science, History, Geography, Physical Education, Social and Religious Studies.

There are a number of opportunities for a learner to further develop their skills. These include Erasmus exchange projects, a Debating Society, a Physics Club, Volunteering programs and various magazines. Through offering these opportunities, we foster student creativity and social skills as well as developing team-working and self-confidence.

Education beyond the classroom is one of the features of the National College ”Eudoxiu Hurmuzachi”. Each year there is a range of visits and trips organized, as well as workshops and specific projects to create opportunities, to inspire our students and widen their horizons.

We have excellent links and partnerships with other schools and organizations such as the British Council Romania and the German Ministry of Education. Moreover, we have participated in the “We Eat Responsibly” Project that supports eco-schools in nine EU countries (Slovakia, Latvia, Malta, Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Poland and Romania) by exploring ways to make more responsible food choices. Thus, we are trying to raise our student’s awareness of the importance of having a healthy lifestyle and of the consumption of locally produced foods for a sustainable economy.

To instill in students a sense of belonging to the community and the habit of sharing, every year before Christmas we organize a fair in which students sell home baked cakes and donate the money to students in need. In addition, deprived families are supported regularly throughout the year as part of community projects.

In terms of success, our students consistently achieve outstanding exam results and the vast majority go on to study at top universities from Romania and abroad. Former students enjoy successful careers in research, medicine, law, engineering, architecture, teaching, journalism, finance, marketing and so on. An alumni organization is currently established to connect and link these generations and to support our effort.

Overall, The National College “Eudoxiu Hurmuzachi” is an establishment where young people’s talents and abilities are nurtured and where they can achieve their ambitions. Our aim is that all students should leave the school fully equipped for success in any pathway they choose.
