CFPA Mercè Rodoreda: Leading Innovation in Adult Education

The CFPA Mercè Rodoreda is a benchmark public center for Adult Education within the Valencian Community. While our foundational mission ensures students obtain their Graduate in Secondary Education diplomas, our vision extends far beyond basic certification. Driven by a commitment to excellence and social responsiveness, we have evolved into a comprehensive training hub. We offer a wide array of complementary activities, including preparation for higher-level vocational training and university entrance exams, as well as specialized workshops in languages and ICT.

Commitment to Employability and European Cooperation Recognizing the critical employment challenges faced by our community (identifying a 61.8% unemployment rate among our student body in 2012), we undertook a strategic modernization of our curriculum. Our goal shifted towards enhancing professional preparation for both employment and entrepreneurship. This transition was significantly bolstered by our leadership in the European Grundtvig project “CASE: Career Assistance and Spirit of Enterprise,” coordinating innovative practices across nine schools in eight European countries.

Innovation and Holistic Development: The “Growing 360” Project Our commitment to pedagogical research is exemplified by our previous collaboration with Miguel Hernández University. Together, we have pioneered the integration of complementary soft skills—professional, emotional, and social—directly into the curriculum, advancing beyond the standard legal framework for adult education. This work has been recognized at forums such as the III International Congress on Lifelong Learning.

Currently, we are spearheading the project “Training for the comprehensive development of adult learners (Growing 360).” Based on preliminary research conducted during the 2019/20 academic year, this initiative focuses on a holistic approach to adult learning founded on four key scientific and humanistic pillars:

2. Mindfulness

3. Coaching

4. Emotional Intelligence

Our consortium, coordinated by José T. Pastor Pérez and including CFPA de Orihuela, is actively developing practical applications of these pillars to adapt adult education to the challenges of the knowledge society. We are seeking European partners who share our vision of integrating emotional well-being and soft skills with academic and professional rigor.
