ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Carriat high school is a French upper-secondary school with students aged 16 to 19
It is located in Bourg-en-Bresse, a medium-sized city in the Rhône-Alpes region.
It is not far from the major city of Lyon, from Geneva, Switzerland and from the Alps. In the immediate surroundings there are the first mountains of the Jura range and the Dombes, an area with thousands of ponds and a haven for birds. Paris is less than two hours away by train.
Our school is a huge educational institution since besides a general and technological high school, there is also a VET school as well as higher education courses for various advanced technician’s certificates, either work/study training programs or full-time education.

AREAS WE WANT TO DEVELOP
– Sustainable development (with another teacher, I attended a sustainable development course for teachers in Dublin a year ago)
– Sense of European belonging and international opening
– Diversity and inclusion to raise awareness of tolerance by discovering other European ways of life and ways of thinking
– AI: its educational uses and limits
ERASMUS EXPERIENCE
We have held an Erasmus+ accreditation since June 2025 and have recently been new funding to be used by August 31, 2027.
Last year, 4 staff members went on a job shadowing mobility to Finland which led to a students’ group mobility there at the end of the school year.
We also set up successful students’ group mobilities to Italy and Spain.
Here are the objectives of our Erasmus+ plan:
Objective 1: Establish a policy of international openness and integrate a European dimension into students’ curricula.
Objective 2: Work towards success for all: promote inclusive education.
Objective 3: Developing a sense of European citizenship is essential to fostering a culture of belonging and solidarity among young people.
Objective 4: Develop and strengthen social skills.

Accommodation of students or staff members in our school in case we only set up a one-way mobility.

Organization strengths
We have an array of specialized courses related to sciences or humanities such as sustainable development, digital information systems, engineering sciences, management, economics, philosophy and French literature, physics and chemistry. The following languages are taught: English, Spanish, Italian, German and Chinese We also offer 6 sports programs: soccer, rugby, basketball, cycling, handball and triathlon. Our principal is strongly fostering international opening and will definitely support partnership and student exchange initiatives. If the first collaboration works out, we also intend to set up a long-term partnership with one European school.
