Second Chance School of Lesvos

You will be able to contact the Coordinator of this organization only once you have logged in or created an account.

The School of Second Chance of Mytilene was founded in 2003 and is currently based in 44 Pittakou Street, in the historic center of the city of Mytilene. It has two departments, the main one in Mytilene and a second one in the village of Kalloni, which is the largest village of the county of Lesvos, at the northern part of the island. The School addresses adults who have not completed their compulsory high school-education. Attendance is obligatory for two years, during afternoon hours (17:30-21:30). Graduates acquire a High School Degree of attendance, which is equivalent to the mainstream High School Degree, and they obtain better occupational prospects and necessary knowledge to move on to higher educational institutions.

During the last years, foreign students have also been coming to school with Greek learners, from Albania, as well as from Syria, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, due to the late refugee crisis. The School has gotten permission by the Ministry of Education to provide 10 extra hours of Greek literacy classes, to cater for the needs of immigrant/refugee students.

The students’ education is based on modern adult education principles and educators are actually teaching “literacies”, as students enrich their previous knowledge and experience of their Greek. The director of the school is Panagiotis Touzenis and the website is www.sdem.gr.
